Area Engineer, Campbell River, British Columbia

We are currently recruiting for an Area Engineer for our Coastal Woodlands Division in Campbell River, BC. The Area Engineer will be responsible for planning and directing engineering activities for a 120,000 to 240,000 m3 annual cut, as well as forecasting and project development.

What You’ll Do

  • Work in our Vancouver Island operating area
  • Safety leadership and management of team
  • Development and supervision of staff and contractors
  • Short term harvest plans (2 years) for respective area
  • Relationships with First Nations, interest groups and government agencies
  • Project engineered/road permit/cutting permit targets
  • Directs, delegates and plans project plans, field layout, surveying, mapping and design
  • Planning cost management and targets
  • Timber pricing
  • Project management
  • Road/Harvest safety
  • Professional documents/applications
  • Project package to Operations
  • Short and long term project forecasting/administration
  • Recce Engineered forecast
  • Cutting permit/project forecast
  • Initial Project sales plan
  • Project coordination with Operations Post-harvest project financial review

What You Offer

  • Degree or diploma in Forestry
  • Eligibility or accreditation with the ABCFP is an asset
  • Aptitude in Microsoft, Road Eng, Winfall/ForestOps and evolving computer applications such as TFM
  • Good physical condition
  • Commitment to safety and environment
  • Experience at training engineers
  • Previous team leader and active team participant
  • Demonstrated experience and competence as Logging Engineer
  • Practical knowledge of timber harvesting
  • Innovative and bottom-line driven business values
  • Practical knowledge of timber quality and value
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to lead; work independently and within a team environment
  • Detail oriented. Action and results oriented, take charge attitude
  • Flexibility to work camp shifts
  • Recognize problems and have them corrected immediately
  • Open-minded and positive in dealing with change and new ways of doing things
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work
